Welcome to the April 2021 issue of the Longer Life Foundation newsletter. As always, we hope you and your loved ones are healthy and safe.

Our goal is to provide you with periodic updates on the Foundation’s activities. The past several months have been busy and exciting for LLF, with new grant proposals to assess, investigations continuing in the labs we fund, and our ongoing sponsorship of Grand Rounds featuring the groundbreaking work of LLF investigators.

Research Grant Letters of Intent

The window for investigator submissions of Letters of Intent for LLF's 2021-2022 grant year closed on February 19, 2021. We received 19 new letters from a wide variety of departments across Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, including Nutritional Science, Developmental Biology, Bone Marrow Transplant, Biochemistry, and Molecular Biology.

These letters will be reviewed and discussed at the upcoming Advisory Group meeting on April 8, 2021. 

LLF Sponsors Grand Rounds

On March 4, 2021, LLF sponsored Internal Medicine Grand Rounds at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Grant Challen, Ph.D., an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine’s Division of Oncology and an alumnus of LLF’s 2018 and 2019 grant years, discussed his lab's latest cutting-edge research.

Dr. Challen's presentation, “Clonal Hematopoiesis: Regulation, Mechanisms, and Opportunities for Blood Cancer Prevention,” can be seen in full via this link.

LLF to Sponsor COVID-19 Podcasts Featuring Dr. Michael T. Osterholm

To expand LLF's mission to promote improvements in mortality and morbidity, we will be sponsoring two podcasts from Dr. Michael T. Osterholm that will focus on the latest developments in COVID-19.

Dr. Osterholm is Director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) and a member of President Biden’s now disbanded COVID-19 Advisory Board. He is a world-renowned infectious disease epidemiologist and has been a leading public health advocate during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Spring Advisory Group Meeting

The Longer Life Foundation’s Spring Advisory Group meeting will be held via Zoom on April 8, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM CST.

The highlight of the meeting will be to review and discuss the 19 Letters of Intent received and determine who will be invited to submit full applications for the 2021-2022 grant year.
